Chapter one: Leaving Linktree

Linktree vs Carrd: a link list or a one-page site?

Linktree is a link list you fill in. Carrd is a one-page website you design. Price, domains, design freedom and selling compared, from both sites in October 2026.

Linktree is a list of links you fill in; Carrd is a one-page website you design yourself. Pick Linktree if you want a page live in minutes and a phone app to edit it. Pick Carrd if you want layout control or your own domain cheaply: as of October 2026, Carrd Pro Standard is $19 a year and Linktree offers no custom domain at all.

People compare the two because both end up in the same place, the link in someone's bio. They get there in very different ways, and the right one depends on how much of the page you want to make yourself. Figures come from Linktree's pricing page, its help center, and Carrd's plan docs, read on 17 October 2026. I make Posy, which comes up near the end, so read that part with that in mind.

#What each one actually is

Linktree gives you one page at linktr.ee/yourname: your photo, a short bio, and a column of links. You add links and pick a theme. Linktree handles the layout. On top of that it has analytics, selling tools, email capture and a marketplace of link apps, and it has apps for iOS and Android.

Carrd builds small one-page websites. A link page is one thing you can make with it, alongside landing pages, portfolios and sign-up pages. You start from a template and arrange sections, text, images and buttons yourself. Nothing is decided for you, which is the point and the cost.

#Price

Linktree is free, with paid plans from Starter at $6 a month billed yearly in the US, or $8 monthly. Prices vary by region; in India, Starter is Rs 220 a month billed yearly. Hiding the Linktree logo starts on Pro.

Carrd is free for up to 3 sites with "Made with Carrd" branding. Its paid plans are billed yearly:

  • Pro Lite, $9 a year: 3 sites, no branding, premium URLs such as .crd.co, larger images and video, no element limit. No custom domain.
  • Pro Standard, $19 a year: 10 sites, custom domains with SSL, forms, widgets from Stripe, PayPal and Gumroad, embeds and cookie-free analytics.
  • Pro Plus, $49 a year: 25 sites, custom forms that can take payments through Stripe Checkout, password protection, redirects and downloadable site files.

Carrd's whole Pro Standard year costs less than three months of Linktree Starter paid monthly in the US.

#Design freedom

This is the real difference.

With Linktree, you change the theme, buttons, fonts and background, and the structure stays a column of links. That keeps every Linktree page readable and quick to make, and it is also why so many look alike.

With Carrd, the structure is yours. You can put a large image first, split the page into sections, add a form, or make something that does not look like a link page at all. That freedom takes time. Expect to spend longer on a Carrd page than on a Linktree one, and to come back to fix spacing on a phone.

A fair rule: if you enjoy arranging things, Carrd will feel good. If you would rather not think about layout, Linktree will.

#Domains and owning the address

Linktree's help center says it does not offer a custom domain to replace the linktr.ee address, and does not provide tools for domain forwarding. Your page stays at linktr.ee/yourname on every plan.

Carrd lets you publish to your own domain from Pro Standard at $19 a year. That matters if you print the address on cards, or want to switch tools later without changing the link in every bio. Point the domain somewhere new and the old address keeps working.

#Selling and email

Linktree has selling built in: digital products, courses and a shop, with a 12% fee on Free that falls on paid plans. It also has email capture and mailing list integrations.

Carrd does not run a store. From Pro Standard you embed Stripe, PayPal or Gumroad widgets and add sign-up forms that send to Mailchimp, Kit and others. Pro Plus can take payments through Stripe Checkout in a custom form, with Stripe's own fees applying.

If selling is the main job, compare Linktree with a creator store too. See Linktree vs Beacons.

#Verdict by use case

  • A link page live tonight: Linktree.
  • Your own domain on a small budget: Carrd Pro Standard.
  • A landing page, portfolio or sign-up page: Carrd. Linktree is not built for it.
  • Sell digital products from the page: Linktree's built-in tools, or a creator store.
  • Edit mostly from your phone: Linktree, with its apps.
  • Several pages for several projects: Carrd, with 3 sites free and up to 25 on Pro Plus.

#A middle option: Posy

Some people want Carrd's "this looks like mine" with Linktree's "I did not have to design it". That is the gap Posy is built for. I make it, so treat this as one option among several. You paste links and pick a look, and each look is a finished scene: a Japanese gold screen, a desk of polaroids, a watercolour sky. Free has unlimited links and three looks. Pro is $5 a month and adds your own domain and three more looks. It is one page per account, not a site builder. More in Posy vs Carrd and the looks.

#Where Posy is not the right pick

  • You need a real one-page website. Sections, forms, embeds and a landing page are Carrd's job. Posy makes link-in-bio pages only.
  • You want your own domain for under $20 a year. Carrd Pro Standard is $19 a year. Posy Pro is $5 a month or $48 a year.
  • You want to place every element yourself. Posy's looks are drawn for you. Carrd gives you a blank page.
  • You sell from the page. Posy has no checkout.
